Koivu is a Finnish-Italian knitwear brand with a truly utilitarian basic: densely-knit woollen jumpers that are simple, comfortable and beautiful. Their archetypical relaxed fit makes the jumpers timeless, everyday items that are built to last.
Koivu’s attitude is “no attitude.” We aren’t creating for a particular “nowness.” Instead, we seek to capture the spirit of everyday wear that’s as contemporary today as it will be in the future, and across generations. Starting from highest quality, 100% extra-fine merino yarn, we developed an exceptional compact lock stitch. This pattern gives the jumper its special feel and pleasing weight. 800 grams of dense knit also mean the jumper will keep its shape throughout countless wearings. An all-year-rounder, the jumper breathes, keeping you warm but not too hot – and the cold winds out, whether you are out on a boat in the Finnish archipelago on a summer night or navigating the foggy winter streets of Paris. Unisex, with a loose fit and a straight cut to the waistline, it can be worn comfortably by everyone. The sleeves are raglan with a generous fit around the arms. It has a double-ribbed neckline and fairly narrow ribbing at the ends of cuffs and waistband. We will also make sure that you can always find the jumper again, in different colours to match the changing seasons. |
The story of the Koivu jumper is as straightforward as the object itself. Conceived as a product rather than a fashion item, the jumper is simply a very good jumper. Designed for everyday use, it is meant to fit every wearer and occasion. However, in its simplicity, it offers endless possibilities for reinterpretation. As a standard piece, it serves as the perfect surface to be altered, customised, and reimagined in collaboration with international designers and artists.
An empty canvas, the jumper becomes the starting point and carrier for unexpected and surprising designs. First, we gave it to Pierre Charpin, who developed two designs: “Scala” and “Flo.” These are now available as embroidered jumpers. Other special editions are being developed together with Brynjar Sigurðarson, Camille Blin, Christoph Hefti, Estelle Bourdet, FOS, Kaf, Marta Dell’Angelo and Rio Kobayashi. Colour expert Giulio Ridolfo is currently in the process of developing the upcoming colour variations for our next line of jumpers. “Sisu” is a Finnish concept that can be described as tenacity of purpose, grit, bravery, resilience, and hardiness. The jumper is just the beginning. With stubborn determination, Koivu shows “sisu” that expresses itself in taking action, despite the odds. Our goal is to develop a true alternative in the knitwear industry with products that are timeless, long lasting and independent. |
